The Nerve Center is a comfortable project studio where I record bands and solo artists. I have been involved in the recording process for over twenty years, studying analog recording and production at Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University in the eighties, writing, recording and producing thirteen full length CD's of my bands, Victims Family, Hellworms, Saturn's Flea Collar and most recently The Freak Accident for several different independent labels including Alternative Tentacles. In 2001 I opened the Nerve Center, recording all basic tracks for The Freak Accident's debut CD with many of the Bay Area's most interesting and influential musicians, Kevin Carnes of The Broun Fellini's, Guitarist/Mandolinist Eric McFadden, Multi-instrumentalist Ed Ivey, street punkers The Black Furies among others. I have produced full length CD's for Abel Mouton, as well as doing album tracking work for bands such as Spitshine Syndicate, The Mits and Ben Barnes(Deadweight) as well as many other demo projects from up and coming Bay Area Bands such as Concord's Choice of Side Effects and their drummer Steve Roderick as well as San Francisco's Ophydia. I have mixed and mastered projects for the Miracle Expo taking cassette four track recordings and adding new depth while bringing them into the digital realm.
The studio is built around a Digi 001 with a Focusrite Octopre bring a full 16 inputs into Pro Tools. I have an Otari MX-5050 2 track analog machine for mixdown as well as great mics and amps and guitars at your disposal. A full drum kit and bass rig are also available. While this is not the most high end tech heavy solution for recording, I'm here to fill a niche where bands are capable of doing their pre-production or production tracking in a comfortable inexpensive no hassle atmosphere. Often I can baffle off the instruments in such a way that no headphone mix is necessary and bleed into live mics is minimal. I believe in making recording fun and allowing artists who are just getting their vision together to be able to use a studio that feels comfortable and try things and experiment in a way that their budget would never let them in an ordinary studio. I have many years experience being on both sides of the control room glass and am great at helping people turn in the best possible recorded performance.
